Grund- und Mittelschule Unterwoessen is a small German Public School, our pupils are aged 6-15 years. We have about 110 pupils in Primary (Grundschule) and about 100 pupils in Secondary (Mittelschule). The school is located in Unterwoessen, a typical Bavarian village with about 2600 inhabitants. Its economy is mainly based on agriculture and tourism. The village is part of the touristic region of "Chiemgau", in the Southeast of Bavaria, close-by the Alps. In our region we rarely have immigrants or refugees. The pupils of Mittelschule come from the surrounding villages e.g. Reit im Winkl, Schleching and Oberwoessen. Most of the parents are situated in the lower class and the lower middle class.
We are a small school, in a small village, but we want to be open-minded about Europe. The elder people in our region are often conservative minded and not very open to foreigners. Our pupils, teachers and parents will be involved in the project and be aware of the other European countries and their cultures. We want to prepare our pupils for a self-determined life without any prejudices against other nations and cultures. As partners in this project we want to approach our school to the European dimension, promote an active citizenship in order to respect the cultural differences and prevent conservative thinking. We want to advance our pupils to become active Europeans, although they have been brought up in a rural Bavarian region. As teachers we want to get new pedagogic ideas, share our experiences and learn from other countries, to enrich our professional development.
We would like to get known to the variance of the other European schools, their different situations, difficulties and functions during daily life. It is important for us as educators to understand the other European nations, their problems and their mentality to open the minds of our pupils. This could help us to get a better judgement of political and economical situations.

Our role in the project is to coordinate the mascots and we will lead a programme of work where children create stories for the mascots and literature for a shared storybook.
